I adore this camera. For someone who is slightly more serious about photography than your standard user but still not a professional photographer by any means, this is the perfect camera. It has the size and weight of a full frame DSLR with the menus and options to match, but still boasts the crop sensor that's more forgiving for a semi-amateur and supports a larger array of lens options. As with any semi-pro camera, it takes some time to fully learn what all the buttons are and what they do, but once you spend the time to figure this camera out, you will be more than happy with your photos. I've had two of these in the past, and after my first one I tried to upgrade to the D7200 but found that I honestly preferred the menus and quality of the D7100, so I returned the 7200 and went back to this. Pair it with a quality Nikkor lens and you can't go wrong.Read full review...

very powerful enthusiast camera
while you can set the camera to the "auto" mode and take really good pictures, you will not take a picture that "POPS" unless you dial in your own custom settings. and, boy, does this camera let you set anything and everything!
as most dslr cameras now days, the d7100 has modes in which you can set the shutter speed, aperature, or both, adjust the ISO in any mode but auto.
the on-board image enhancers are fun to play with also. and there are what i call my cartoon modes where you can shoot pictures in a crayon-like drawing, or single out colors and black and white the rest...
the lcd screen is a nice 3" high resolution screen which makes the high def videos easy to see. there is a wide selection in video quality also, including frame speeds.
i have had this camera for a couple months now, and have not had nearly enough time to get to know the inner workings or put it through enough shooting situations. but, i can say that i love this camera and i hope i can use even half of what it is capable of!Read full review...

Received this camera as a Christmas present. Opened it early to check and make sure all items were there. I must say that this is an impressive camera. I've not had the chance to really explore the things that this camera is capable of. I don't consider myself a professional by any means but this camera is simple enough to operate for the novice, and complex enough for more advance users. There are a multitude of settings and dials to keep you exploring and experimenting for some time. You definitely need to keep the user manual handy as it has some extremely useful info on camera operation and capability. if you are considering upgrading your point and shoot digital camera to the next level, you should definitely take a look at the Nikon D7100. You won't be disappointed.Read full review...

Nikon's mighty mite
Nikon has packed many of the qualities of its high-line DSLRs into the 7000 series. The D7100 is a serious upgrade from the D7000 it replaced, and the D7200 offers some serious improvements as well.r>
For me, the value-for-the-buck is with the D7100. People who like to shoot a lot of video will like this at least for short bursts. I've always found the multiple steps required for video to be something of a pain, but the process works well and creates high-def output. You're best off to settle on a focal length and let it stay there.
Still, on the other hand, are a breeze once you navigate the menus and tell the camera what you REALLY want to do.
From sun-drenched desert landscapes to nighttime political rally photos, the D7100 never let me down. Just because it's small, definitely smaller than the D300 or D600 series, the camera has pretty good battery life. Its controls will be instantly familiar to any lower-level Nikon user, making the upgrade pretty painless.
Then there are the images. At 24MP, the sensor captures amazing detail. Use the light properly and you'll love the texture you can record. It isn't a D800 or one of the other amazing beasts Nikon produces now, but it's a very good camera for the money. Since many of us don't have the budget for the top of the line stuff, this gear will get us what we really need, even if it isn't always all we'd want.Read full review...

Great Camera - Nikon D7100
The D7100 has all the features wanted and the capacity to take you close to Pro level at fraction of the usual cost. When purchased as a reconditioned camera they constitute an excellent value. Unless you have a real need for the new 7200 Wi-Fi advantages the 7100 is every bit as capable at about half the price. There are a wide range of after market products available for this camera allowing you to customize it for just about any task you might have in mind. It's one of the best DX camera values on the market today. Highly Recommended.Read full review...

Great features and amazing images
I really like this camera. I use my DSLR's for personal use and have owned 2 D50's and a D90 in the past. This is a huge step up in ability from the D90. Low light performance is better, features are better, and the controls allow you to make quicker changes without resorting to going thru the menus. It is taking a little more time to learn but over time it will be worth it.Read full review...

Excellent step up from D5xxx
Works exactly like it should! If you are stepping up from a D5xxx then you are in for a treat! Noticeably quieter shutter, you'll immediately love the feel of this unit, the grip is larger and much more comfy but the joys only begin there... 2 SD card slots, interruptible and resume-able interval timer, TTL flash and ambient metering with ALL your old Nikon mount lenses, artificial horizon(!), customizable menus...
Also MUCH better battery life. The only drawback is the loss of the flip screen which is life I suppose...Read full review...

Great entry pro quality camera.
Takes great looking images. I compared the image quality against my new D610, and if it wasn't for the crop factor, like the low ISO conversions, which to match the full frame a 0.6 ISO just doesn't exist, I would make this my all the time camera; still, great image quality.Read full review...
Nikon D7100 is worthy of consideration by any pro or semi-pro
I've been a professional photographer over 4 decades now. I'm not shooting the same stuff I used to and have the luxury of photographing what I please. Overall this is Nikon's best APS size sensor camera yet. Similar to the D200 and D300. Not as big a viewfinder as the D200. Photos are exquisite in detail. Much, much better than the D3000s or D5000s I've tried.
Shots at 6400 ISO and above can be very useful images on projects.
Thanks to the on-board focusing motor I can use any nikkor or 3rd party AF lens. Focusing is fairly fast. Just remember, as with any digital or film camera - it's all about the lens. Using an inferior lens will yield a poor image. However you needn't purchase top of the line lenses for amazing quality. Nikon's VR lenses are excellent choice. I've tried the camera with older fixed focus (prime) lenses - and new life has been breathed into them.
The settings and overrides are easy to learn, and if you have ever owned a Nikon DSLR of any type the menus will be familiar.
Taking movies also yields great quality (depending on your lens again!). Hopefully one day the folks at Nikon will develop a sensor that can go beyond the 20 minute limit before overheating.
Sound quality of onboard mics is decent - just leave the camera alone once you're rolling to avoid picking up annoying handling sounds.
My biggest gripe is the processor. Not too fast in writing to the SD card (there are 2 SD slots). Whether shooting in burst, high ISO or long exposures the processor will take a while to catch up. So for fast sports and action keep shooting until you are maxed. The camera will not function until it's caught up writing. I've had to wait 30 seconds on occasion. But this doesn't keep me from loving this camera and having it be my go to, carry all the time gear.
This camera would be great for wedding photographers, social events, some sports, journalism. I can't attest to extensive "in the wilds" usage but see no problems long as one is aware of its limitations first. Battery life is excellent too.
Prices are coming down on these too, maybe Nikon will unveil something new in 2015 to replace it - anyone's guess - but for right now, caveats aside, this deserves a serious thought to any pro or semi-proRead full review...
If you're thinking about this...BUY IT!
This may have been the best splurge I've ever purchased in my life. I was wanting a DSLR camera for the longest time and my friend told me he had this one. Right out of the box I was hooked. Yes I watched YouTube videos to know how to work the camera, well worth the long boring videos. My images come out spectacular! And if you don't believe me, you can look at my instagram for proof of change. @life.is.raleigh
My images are crisp, solid, and smooth all in one. If you're thinking about buying this and you're iffy. Hit that Buy now button! You won't regret itRead full review...
