For anyone seeking a high quality telephoto zoom lens for portraits and action photography at a very affordable price, the Nikon AF Zoom Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G Lens is a great solution.
This very compact telephoto zoom lens is fully compatible with the Nikon N65 as well as Nikon’s Professional D-series Digital SLR, 35mm Professional F5, F100, N80, N75 and Advanced Photo System Pronea cameras. Compact and lightweight, with a comfortable, well-balanced feel, the 4.3x zoom lens is ideal for candid shots, portraits, travel and sports photography.
A key design element considered that the newest Nikon SLR models have built-in aperture control (via the Command Dial), and therefore do not require that the lens have an aperture control ring. With this point in mind, the G lenses omit the aperture ring, resulting a lighter and more compact lens.
NOTE: G-type Nikkor lenses are fully compatible with the F5, F100, N80, N65, N60, N50, N4004-series, PRONEA 6i, PRONEA S, D100 and D-series (or any newer model, except D40/D40X & D60) cameras. They are not compatible with other Nikon cameras. For the F4, N90-series, N70, N8008-series and N6006 cameras, only programmed auto or shutter-priority auto exposure mode can be used.

I bought this lens for my home inspection business, and it's perfect for that function. Houses don't move (much), so manual focus is no problem. Low light is seldom an issue, so maximum aperture of 5.6 is OK. It starts going soft at f-stops above f 11 or below f 8, so not a great lens in that regard. It's nice and compact (one reason I chose it), so I can carry it and my camera body, attached, in a small bag. Low light and moving subjects, no. Static subjects in daylight for medium-resolution applications, yes.Read full review...

Not as good as Sigma
When Nikon, the presumed world leader makes a lens that won't even work on their own D3300 with auto focus, one has to wonder if they are trying to turn their brand into junk. I will buy a new camera body that it will hopefully work on, but until then, I put it in a scrap heap camera bag I will never use. I bought it because I trusted the brand. I won't ever make that mistake again.Read full review...

Great lens for the money!!!
Ordered this product to extend the range of my Nikon D60 camera, knowing that it would be manual focus only, but otherwise fully compatible to the "AF-G" spec. with no aperture ring. This lens does not have an internal focus motor and was intended for some of the older autofocus film cameras and early or higher end digital cameras with focus motors in the camera body. Have only been able to take few test shots with it but I am so far very satisfied with both the picture quality and of the build quality of the lens. Compact for its effective length. Slightly faster aperture that the AF-S version meant for the D40/ D60/ D3000, etc. If you don't mind the manual focus with these cameras, or if you do have a body with a focus motor, I don't believe you could go wrong with this lens.Read full review...
A lens built like a tank!
Very well built lens (Metal not plastic). Older push-pull zoom style has appeal to me. Its autofocus is fast and accurate. It works beautifully with both a DSLR (D300) and an older film cameras (N90s). While it lacks some modern features such as VR and distance communication to the camera, it's used price along with a $117.00 film camera body allows me to safely use a bird lens in a canoe. If it drowns I'm not out big bucks. With an aperture ring I can use it with extension tubes for close focusing. And the aperture ring also allows me to use older tele-converters. Its tripod mounting ring has never gotten in my way and is very helpful in balancing my outfit on a mount. This tripod mount is much easier to use while switching from horizontal to vertical formats and leveling the horizon when using a ball head on a tripod. It also works well with D-TTL and i-TTL flashes. In short, I love this lens!!Read full review...
Great for the price.
All lenses are not created equal, even at the same focal lengths and even by the same company. This lens is great, but doesn't have the vibration reduction technology. You don't know how great it is until you don't have it. But for half the price, or less, this lens is fantastic. At full zoom, you'll likely want to mount it to a tripod, especially if you're not in full daylight shooting. But I do consider it money well spent for the price. If you can't afford the the VR version (like the 55-200mm or 18-200mm), then this is a great lens to work with. Of course, if you have the money to spend, you can get the VR version of this exact focal length, along with VR AND a 2.8 aperature PLUS other upgrades. It'll only cost you about 10 to 15 times the cost of this one. So... yeah.... it's all about what you want to pay for. Mounted to a tripod or shot at very high shutter speed in broad daylight, I've gotten very good results with this lens that I paid under $200 for.Read full review...
A nice addition to average "stock" lens
When you purchase your average camera most will come with a lens in the 18-55 range. Or, offer a discount when you purchase the lens same time as the body. What is nice about this lens is that if your first lens stops around 55-70mm then you add this lens you will have a total range from about 18 to 300mm. (Depending on the lower mm of your first lens) Not too bad, one lens on the camera, one in the bag. Sometimes you just don't want to carry around the whole backpack.
I own a few ed lenses and they are a little sharper and a LOT quicker on the focus. To be honest, dollar for dollar, I think this lens is a better buy then my ED lenses.
On my digital SLR there are 5 focus areas, this lens has a tendency to pick one of the focus areas that I was not looking for. It seems as if it is adjusting focus just a bit too much.
One big benefit is the weight. For it's size this lens very light. This matters is you are going on a long trip and want to take a half dozen lenses.
If limited by funds, or if you take your photography as a serious hobby, a step above the average but not a professional obsession then this is the lens for you.Read full review...
Nikon AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G Nikkor Lens
As far as Nikon/Nikkor lens' go... this is a great lens! This particular lens was created for 35mm cameras, but it works okay with digital cameras too. The only problem I found is that some of the auto focus touch points don't work with the digital and some of my pictures came out a little grainy. Also, this is a Green tinted lens, so your color is going to be a bit off, but its great for natural light and night time photography. It is a GREAT lens for your 35mm and it will work with your digital SLR as long as you don't mind that it doesn't work to its full potential. For those with just a digital SLR, this is an inexpensive way and a great lens to see what being able to focus at the 300 distance and why its a good investment to be $400 on a lens made specifically for digital SLRs. However, having both digital AND 35mm, This lens is a must in the 35mm SLR photographers collection!Read full review...
Inexpensive lens for Nikon
Supposed to be auto focus, but only on some models of Nikon cameras. Auto focus does not work on my D3200. Other than that, it is a really handy lens. Small and light for a 300 mm zoom lens.

Good telephoto pics, easy to use, great price on ebay
Crisp pics, easy to use. We bought this camera to take pictures of birds in our lake, neighborhood. We live on a protected wildlife preserve in FL. Fun.
Bought on ebay for a great price.

Tripod, good light and 100 bucks required.
I like the included lens hood. The 62mm skylight filter was USD 12. Very light lens. Slower lens than I am used to. Auto focusing is sluggish.
I bought this lens for one picture of a Great Blue Heron which feeds in a nearby lake. I ended up with a series of pictures, which are amazing but not high enough quality for large enlargements. Tripod and good light is required above 150mm.
I have had good results however using flash for shots indoors. Flash shots of my children receiving awards etc., where you normally can’t get up close. I will keep this lens until I replace it with a fast 135mm or so fixed focal length.
In general the pictures are fine for small prints but still look a bit flat in contrast and lack sharpness.
I compared this zoom at 100mm to my f1.4 50mm Nikkor with a 2x converter. The results bear out my suspicions about contrast and sharpness. I also gain an f stop! Not surprising really – you get what you pay for - 400 bucks beat 100 bucks!
So – did I waste 100 bucks? No – It was one of my cheaper lessons!Read full review...
Good value for a low end Nikon lens.
This lens may be just fine for many buyers. It's compact compared to the much more expensive VR version of the same focal length made by Nikon. I have mixed feelings. I haven't given it a complete test yet but my attempts at a moon shot were less than satisfying. Then again a good shot of the moon is very difficult to achieve.Read full review...
